Category:

AHK-Cu is the copper(II) complex of the tripeptide alanyl-histidyl-lysine. Like the related GHK-Cu, its histidine imidazole and terminal amine coordinate a copper ion in a square-planar arrangement, allowing the peptide to act as a carrier that delivers copper across membranes and hands it to copper-dependent enzymes.

The distinct residue at position one gives AHK-Cu a binding profile and activity spectrum separate from GHK-Cu, and research has concentrated on angiogenic signalling and follicular tissue models. Investigators use this compound in studies of vascular endothelial proliferation, dermal fibroblast behaviour, lysyl oxidase–dependent collagen cross-linking, and the comparative pharmacology of copper-binding tripeptides.
