ARA-290 (Cibinetide) is an eleven–amino acid peptide derived from the helix B domain of erythropoietin — the structural face of the parent hormone that contacts the innate repair receptor rather than the classical homodimeric EPO receptor. This selectivity is the compound’s defining pharmacological feature: it engages tissue-protective signalling without the erythropoietic activity that accompanies full-length EPO.
The innate repair receptor is a heterocomplex of the EPO receptor and the β-common receptor subunit, expressed on cells responding to metabolic stress and injury. Research applications centre on this receptor’s role in neuroprotective signalling, small-fibre neuropathy models, inflammatory resolution, and the broader question of how tissue-protective and haematopoietic EPO pathways can be pharmacologically separated.
